Web 2.0 Expo NY and the power of less by using Social Media

The Power of Less! This is the theme of Web2.0 Expo NY 2009. This has never been more true than now, and Social Media has shown us a new way of communicating the message in a down economy. Tons of Social Media tools and technologies are free or very accessible, what’s a great starting point for new and small businesses, or regular people with small budgets.

The consumers are now spreading the message and big companies can gain more with less just by listening and joining the conversation and tacking advantage of the opportunity to talk to potential clients directly. By doing this many companies were able to save money enough to keep their staff on.

Web 2.0 Expo come to our backyard in New York City, at the Javits Center

This coming week the Javits Center will be hosting the Web2.0 Expo. I learned about this event by watching a GaryVee Speech on YouTube, actually, in my opinion, his best speech ever! What an energy!!! However, I had the chance to meet Gary Vaynerchuk in person at BlogWorld Expo 2008 during his keynote. When I went back to NY, I found the video below, Gary Vaynerchuk live at Web 2.0 Expo in NYC, and started to pay even more attention on the “Vayner Nation.

Going to events like the Web 2.0 Expo helps shape the way we see our businesses and the direction we want to move in. Educating yourself is a way to never give up on what you love and find a way to make it happen. Even when things go wrong they are right. Just look for the lesson to be learned.  The fact that you don’t have the most perfect website or blog, for example, it’s not a reason to don’t blog, but an incentive to figure out ways to improve yourself. Watch Gary Vaynerchuk talking about going out and killing it every day.  Gary talks about the options  you have after a hard days work.

Don Lemon pulls a Kanye West on Current TV’s Oxycontin report at BlogWorld Expo 09

“The Death and Rebirth of Journalism” was the topic of the second day’s opening keynote at BlogWorld & New Media Expo 2009. During the session -moderated by Brain Solis, with the participation of Don Lemon from CNN, Joanna Drake Earl from Current.com, Jay Rosen journalism professor for NYU, and Hugh Hewitt, expert in politics and radio show host-, Lemon pulls the Kanye West with a Swift interruption on Joanna Drake and Current TV, raising his hand while interrupting her without waiting to be acknowledged. She was talking about how citizen journalism is spreading around the world and she mentioned the story Current was doing about Oxycontin Express, when Don Lemon jumped in with his Oxycontin report. Watch the video below from 20:30 mark to 22:00 and let me know what you think.

Another highlight of the session was Don Lemon trying to acknowledge the value of the Mainstream Media when it comes to fact checking. He first tried to suggest that only major publications have the commitment with journalism techniques. “If you see it on Twitter, you would say: What’s up with that balloon boy. But then comes the mainstream media, and bring the facts behind the story!”
